Twang Partners Supports Local High School IT Program

At Oliver Wendell Holmes High School on San Antonio’s west side, more than 98 percent of students come from families who live below the poverty line. On a daily basis, many feel discouraged about the possibilities of higher education and career opportunities beyond high school. It is here where one outstanding teacher has stepped up to provide hope by creating a specialized technology course that opens doors for students to succeed in the future.

John Carrera began his career at Holmes High School as a computer and IT repairman for Northside Independent School District. After students began coming to him with their own technology and computer questions, Carrera was inspired to begin teaching his own electronics class. He taught his first basic electronics course in 2004.

Since then, enrollment in his classes has grown exponentially, and Mr. Carrera now teaches both basic and advanced classes. His students receive technology certifications that can help them land real world jobs at major IT companies post-graduation. Many have gone on to become success stories, inspiring current students.

Twang Partners is proud to be a sponsor of this life-changing program. Each year, we provide monetary support and materials that help take the program to new heights. Equipment, banners and T-shirts are among a few of the items we have donated. We feel honored to be a part of such an impactful educational movement and look forward to continuing this partnership for many years.
