Twang Jazzes It Up with KRTU 91.7 FM

It’s pretty well known that members of the Twang team are a bunch of music lovers. You can find us at country dance halls, gigantic music festivals and rock concerts across the country, but you may not have guessed that one of our favorite types of music is jazz.

In fact, we’ve been supporting KRTU 91.7, a nonprofit, listener-supported radio station at Trinity University, since 2008. During KRTU’S biannual on-air fundraisers, Twang founder Roger T. Treviño, Sr. sponsors a designated time frame and matches dollar-for-dollar the donations of callers. To rally the support of the community, we visit the station and go live on the air to tell listeners just how passionate we are about the station and music education.

Money raised during the call-a-thons not only helps keep KRTU on the air but also supports Growing Jazz in San Antonio, KRTU’s signature initiative that allows K-12 students to experience jazz firsthand through attending live concerts and providing multiple opportunities for students to receive personal instruction from professional local musicians and clinicians.
