Twang Partners, LTD celebrates 30 years of flavor and fun
(APRIL 16, 2016) SAN ANTONIO – In April, Twang Partners will celebrate its 30th year manufacturing premium-flavored salts, sugars and seasonings for the food and beverage industry. The company has been an industry pioneer in creating flavorful blends that have driven consumer demand for products that add flavor and fun to food and drinks. Notably, Twang Partners was the first company to introduce Beer Salt and flavored margarita salt to the market in 1997. With three decades of flavor innovation and steady growth, Twang Partners’ dedicated team is more excited than ever for what the future holds.
Roger Trevino, Sr. founded Twang Partners following a business trip to Mexico City where he stumbled upon a street vendor selling packaged citrus salt. The salt’s taste took him back to the flavors of his childhood in San Antonio – salty sour pickles, lemons with a dash of salt and fruit sprinkled with chili and lime. Both delighted and inspired, Treviño returned home and immediately began research and development for a high-quality citrus flavored salt for snacks and beverages. Over the next few years, he collaborated with companies across the country to develop the perfect formula, design eye-catching packaging and manufacture the final product, which was debuted to the public in April 1986.
The first blends produced by Twang Partners were a lemon-lime salt and a pickle flavored salt, available in 1-gram packets. Ten years later, Anheuser-Busch and Twang joined forces to create a co-branded product that introduced Twang Beer Salt to a mainstream American audience and launched the company into a period of significant growth.
Today, the privately-held company is still family-owned and operated by Roger Treviño and his children, Roger Jr., Patrick, Elysia and Jacob. They are joined by an extended family of more than 50 employees at Twang’s headquarters in southwest San Antonio. The company also operates an additional manufacturing facility in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, known as Twang South.
“My vision for Twang started with one packet of salt that I purchased on the street in Mexico City so many years ago,” said Roger Treviño, Sr., founder of Twang Partners. “To see how the company has grown and thrived over thirty years is a dream come true for me and for my family, and I am thankful to all those that have helped us get here, especially our Twang employees. I feel honored that my children have joined the family business, and I can’t wait to see where they take it in the next 30 years.”
Twang products can be found in grocery, convenience, liquor and specialty stores nation-wide in over 38 states. Twang products include Beer Salt, Twangerz Snack Topping, Twang-A-Rita Margarita Salts, ZAS! Super-Seasoning, Clamato Chili-Lime Salt and Café Zuca Flavored Sugar Toppings. Twang has also partnered with some of the world’s top food and beverage companies such as Dr. Pepper-Snapple Group, Margaritaville Foods, Starbucks, Jamba Juice, Taco Cabana, Sauza, Midori, and Grand Marnier to create unique private label blends.
In celebration of its 30th anniversary, Twang Partners is honoring its Latino roots by introducing a new Beer Salt flavor, Michelada Especial. The new product will be available in stores beginning this month.
“With Michelada Especial Beer Salt, we’re honing a Latino favorite, the traditional Michelada, a combination of beer, tomato juice, lime juice and assorted sauces and spices to add a kick. We believe that these authentic flavors will thrill flavor seekers looking for something unique to spice up their beer, tequila or favorite tomato-based drinks” said Twang’s Chief Operating Officer Elysia Trevino-Gonzales.
